Shooting Sports

Camp Barnhardt boasts modern rifle, shotgun, archery, and tomahawk ranges. Like all areas at camp, our shooting sports sessions are kept small so Scouts get personal attention and every opportunity to qualify for these merit badges. Of course, our first priority is always safety: our rifle and shotgun classes are led by NRA certified adult instructors and our archery sessions are led by a USA Archery Level 1 instructor. A Shooting Sports Director trained and certified through the National Camping School supervises the ranges at any time they are in use.

We recommend all Scouts spend time at the ranges and learn about firearm safety, how to care for firearms, and to practice their aim. Ranges are often open during open recreational time for visitors, but our merit badge instruction is unparalleled. Archery is an excellent introduction to the shooting sports for younger Scouts. Scouts 12 and older can take Rifle merit badge while Shotgun is reserved for Scouts 13 and older.

Maybe you can learn to shoot as consistently as the Scout below who placed a second arrow into the bull's eye that split his earlier shot!
