Aquatics
Camp John J. Barnhardt has a beautiful waterfront area on the Harper Hearne portion of Badin Lake. A set of train tracks create a boundary between it and the larger lake, creating a large safe area where Scouts can enjoy using our canoes, rowboats, paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats. We even teach skiing so Scouts can earn the Water Sports merit badge!
We also have a large pool where Swimming and Lifesaving merit badges are taught during summer camp. Additionally, we offer an instructional swim session to help Scouts that are new to the water and those that need a little help mastering certain swimming techniques. Of course the pool is also open for approximately two hours each day during camp for open swim!
Our Aquatics Staff is lead by an adult certified as an Aquatic Instructor by the BSA's National Camping School with assistance from another certified adult that oversees the pool. All of our lifeguards hold either BSA or Red Cross certification and are dedicated to ensuring the safety of your scouts.
Aquatics activities offered at Camp John J. Barnhardt include: Swimming, Lifesaving, Instructional Swim, Canoeing, Kayaking, Rowing, Small Boat Sailing, Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Water Sports!
